Here’s a plan for a Cozy Home Community with 8 Colonies and a Community Building with amenities. Between the Colonies are vegetable and flower gardens.

It used to be that wherever people lived together, there was community.

In most neighborhoods and apartment complexes today in America, people may live in close proximity but there’s not much community.

The COVID-19 global pandemic certainly refocused our views of community living, especially when it comes to senior living.

Cozy Home Communities are designed to facilitate and intentionally encourage safe, healthy community living.

First, you’ll live in your own house, separate from others. Second, you will have something in common with the other residents in your Cozy Home Colony. Third, everyone who is able agrees to provide 10 hours of volunteer time each month supporting others and the community.

It’s interesting: Studies show that people are more than willing to help their neighbors, but most folks are reluctant to ask for help. By having this shared commitment to each other, the hesitation in asking for help is removed.

What About Services for Seniors?

The design of Cozy Home Communities is predicated on how services will be accessed and delivered in the future.

Think about how things work today: need something from the store and are uncomfortable navigating traffic and crowds? Amazon Prime, Door Dash and even Uber are affordable solutions.

Need groceries? Prescriptions? Order them and get same day delivery.

Before we know it, drones will be delivering our pizzas.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re seeing telemedicine and other healthcare services being delivered in new ways. These changes in how people access services will continue to change in the coming years.

The basic configuration of a Cozy Home Community™ is to have five Colonies on a 5-7 acre lot, resulting in 40 housing units with up to 80 residents. At that size, it is easy to arrange for shared home health aides, nurse managers, and other on-site healthcare services. Plus, with neighbors obligated to lend a hand, residents will have support right next door.

Porches, shared carports, community gardens — all are designed to connect neighbors and form lasting bonds.
